I ate a Subway 12 incher this lunchtime, with my son and his friend and i’ve got to say that after stuffing it all in my gob, I felt on the edge of being sick. Sat in a under stacked Spar shop, with empty shelves and freezers, burning the electricity to keep them cold, the bread, meat and “salad” they served was pretty poor if i’m honest and it made me think of how substandard fast food is. Just sugar and salt and e numbers filling me up with stuff which will only make me fat. When did we become so tolerant of having shite for food? I can only imagine that tomorrow morning on the toilet will be a violent one. Fuck fast food.
And when did shops in Britain resemble 1980’s Eastern European supermarkets? Sitting on a chair towards the rear of the Spar, was like a waiting room for some sort of dystopian governmental decision, the lights flickered, and the two lads stacking the shelves were talking about going out and drugs. A place to come to die as the single customer shuffled, oblivious to external goings on, headphones in, between the aisles, his phone rectangular in the pocket of his Buff coloured Tracky Bots. It’s a Bleak future for us all and make no mistake unless something isn’t done pretty soon. Nothing to look forward to, apart from generic foodstuffs, artificial stimulants and tracksuits. Comfort and catastrophic weight gain.
