It’s been an exciting weekend. I don’t wish him dead, and I don’t condone violence in politics but for both republicans and democrats to come out and say that as a consequence of the botched assassination that “This is not who we are” referencing the US, I think the rest of the world is probably thinking, well, yes, that is exactly who you are. It was horrific to see Trump nearly killed, at the rally over the weekend but hardly surprising, not totally unexpected and hardly the stuff of absurdism.
To say that a country is this way or that way doesn’t necessarily make it so, the Tories tried this gaslighting delusional rhetoric and look where it got them, finally the electorate voted to get them out, to see them withdraw disgracefully to a lifetime of reality TV and dancing competitions, the election was an election of cleansing and rest. We’ve all had enough of the playground politics and (thank God) I’m not listening to the news as much, it seems watching car crashes is pretty grim.
So on a more saccharine note, i’ve purchased 2 pairs of footwear for my holiday back to Turkey again, same place, different folks and higher prices this year, but i’m literally gagging for a break, my work hasn’t been particularly busy but day after day week after week the improvements and software upgrades are the stuff of dystopian science fiction, no one seems to be talking to each other, but mental health is being taken seriously, no one talks to each other, but new products are being bought out without any idea as to how they can satisfy the customer, monthly questionnaires are still being emailed out to us, the questions change and none of them represent us or are asking the right questions, the anonymous box ticking exercise is increasingly irrelevant, because no one listens and we’ve been offered a 2% pay rise, which piles on to the previous years below inflation pay cuts, a wise man in HQ apparently worked out in the last 12 years or so we’ve received (seems the wrong word somehow) a 24ish% pay cut, which is why they’re getting 25% less production from me, with little chance of a better picture next year. I think some companies are just meant to run their course, fizzle up and die; change is a grand thing if someone will pay us for the alterations, but then finds out the arms are too short, or the hat too tight. This metaphorical tailors is churning out the wrong garments to the clients who have started wearing track suits and sweat bands. The brave new world imagined at my company doesn’t seem to be materialising, and the sense of desperation within Boardroom is palpable, and the fact that they’ve said it…
So where do we all go from here? Well the grown ups are in charge on this side of the pond, maybe someone should say something…
I think they need talking to.
