I’m watching the late night TV coverage of the USA election; that twat Boris Johnson is on, keeps dropping the name of his soon to be bargain bin book, which I won’t mention and don’t look it up, you’re meant to be concentrating. He’s a desperate charlatan, a bin bag full of shit and its a real throwback to the bad old days of Covid and politics under his tenure, and however much I like Channel 4 I wish he’d just disappear, moving to America would be preferable.
But enough of all this; the result will come sometime over the next few days.
In depressing anti motivational work news this week it seems the wage rise is now set in stone in so far as they are suggesting to us thats it, theres no money. The usually bouncy CEO was uncharacteristically somber today in a message to rally the troops, a 2 minute monologue to tell us that we need to accept the raise as there is no way on earth to give us any more. The union meeting previous to his well timed dreary dispatch was on line and listeners were more down beat that i’ve ever heard or seen before in my 25 years in this place, people were actually writing in the chat saying that this is the final straw, they’re going to actually leave; the straw house is collapsing and fuck knows how its going to recover, the future looks particularly dark where I work. I believe its not going to be long before management have to apply a rake to the workforce and clear away some very experienced slightly more expensive staff and call in a fresher cheaper less experienced cohort. And all this when the professionalisation of the field staff, of which I am one, was of paramount importance; a bleached white Certificate of Professionalism clings to the wall gradually loosing definition as the sun fades the Qualification in synch with the tedium and overbearing admin of a top heavy work day as the old job fades into the sunset.
Its a shit show on a micro level compared to the shit show on a macro level on the other side of the Atlantic. But a shit show is a shit show, and as my company has being saying for some years now regarding Operating system breakdowns, workarounds and ever mounting confusion and complications:
“Well, it is what it is”
Losing experienced people just adds to the downfall. New people with bright ideas just add to the confusion. Those who stay are unmotivated to do more than what’s expected.
In all the flush of the toilet isn’t far away and down the sewer the place will swim

Very true! God I wish I could leave and then I’d spill the beans!

The exit interview, if they ever have such a thing, would be a great place to vent to management
